Positive Asset Management By You, Or The Asset

In some companies there is a dangerous assumption that people mainly feel lucky they have a job, and are happy working there.

I have seen that those who are restless and looking elsewhere, are often those who would actually add the most value, if managed correctly – or do add the most value but it isn’t recognised or rewarded.

In contrast, I observe others who are plodding along and often notice a lower level of ambition, drive, desire, passion and ability.

Many workers are basically encouraged not to think differently, not to learn, not to discover and not to be too ambitious. I outlined some of these points in this post also.

This is a pandemic across businesses and, I believe, has created (and continues to create), companies of followers rather than leaders. Of course, not everyone wants to be a leader, but I believe the mentality should still be nurtured, if present.

It seems that many of the best people get ousted and some may suggest at times this a protectionist move by senior, less capable people, who prefer things to be manageable, controllable and unthreatening. Obviously this isn’t something we can easily say out loud and fear risking our income.

Personally, I prefer to spend time with people who challenge what I think. People with great insight and reason. People who stretch my thoughts into new areas.

These ‘positive assets’ are people that should be held on to for dear life, in my opinion.

If they are left alone they eventually find other positive assets, build rebellions, leave an organisation.

So in total, natural selection filters out the real talent and leaves many organisations with little or no ability to ever be truly spectacular.

I guess in a way that makes it an easier playing field to disrupt. :)
