Internal Versus External Purpose

When setting out on a mission to innovate, grow and change, it is imperative to start with a purpose.

This shouldn’t be an internal purpose like increasing sales, this should be an external purpose like building a particular customer service or something other that is directly linked to value creation for humans.

Internal purpose tunes thought to de-prioritise value to anyone other than the organisation. External purpose is about where can be created for others.

And therein lies the magic.

I have noticed that even the most business-like professionals find it far more rewarding and relaxing to drop the internal mandates and start thinking human value. Sometimes it takes a while to shift the mind but once shifted, the flow usually starts with abundance.

The perspective of what business you are actually in, becomes clearer than ever before and the resulting ideas for doing new stuff become more viable for citizen engagement to happen.

This engagement with value is what then drives sales rather than a campaign with only selfish intent.

It’s a great thing to experience and is rock solid in terms of logic in an ultra-connected world.

Enjoy the ride :-)
