A party that supports free internet downloads and file-sharing was on track to win a seat in the European Parliament, an exit poll said Sunday.

The Pirate Party, which has a strong following among younger Swedish voters, scored 7.4 per cent, public broadcaster SVT’s exit poll said, and were the strongest party in the 18-30 age group.

Swedish voters elect 18 seats to the European Parliament.

We also want a complete ban on DRM technologies, and on contract clauses that aim to restrict the consumers’ legal rights in this area. There is no point in restoring balance and reason to the legislation, if at the same time we continue to allow the big media companies to both write and enforce their own arbitrary laws.
